WELCOME to Rainbow Tales - Healing Stories for Children

… like a rainbow in a storm, a healing tale can shine light and color into the challenges of daily life …

RAINBOW TALES is an APP that offers story medicine as a creative strategy for parenting, teaching and counselling children.

As medicine is used to help restore wholeness or balance to out-of-balance physical conditions, story medicine can be an imaginative and effective strategy to help shift out-of-balance behavior and problematic situations back towards wholeness or balance.

This comprehensive collection of 101 healing (therapeutic) stories by Susan Perrow addresses a wide range of universal behaviors and situations. Many can be used as bedtime tales, and all have the potential to nurture positive values and build resilience. Some of the stories are light-hearted, most have a more serious theme, some are short and contain rhyming lines, and some are longer with more complex journeys.

The range of selected stories and ideas are suitable for ages three through to ten years. However, stories don’t like to be fixed into an age box. Sometimes a story written for a young child may have a transformative effect on an older child, sometimes a story written for an older child may have a transformative effect on a teenager or you, the adult.

Although stories are not magic pills that have powers to fix or heal all difficulties and challenges, story medicine can be a wonderful, and more pleasant, alternative to nagging and lecturing.

And sometimes magic does happen and a story does make a difference!

RAINBOW TALES can help children with:

- challenging life situations – e.g. death in the family, divorce, birth of a sibling, loss of a loved one,
- challenging behavior – e.g. aggression, anxiety, bullying, teasing, intolerance, boredom, lack of cooperation,
- everyday challenges and routines – e.g. toileting, bathing, dressing, food challenges
- soothing night-time sleep
- strengthening resilience
- creative expression and imaginative thinking
- healthy character development - the stories teach universal values like love, respect, justice and honesty.
